On Tuesday March 3, 2020, we were in Tallahassee to meet with State Legislators and attend Senate Committee Meetings regarding Full Practice Authority for Nurse Practitioners.

In the Florida Senate, Senate SB 1676 was read during Appropriations on Tuesday March 3, 2020. This bill PASSED with 16 YES and 4 NAYS.  This bill includes language that would allow a limited number of APRNs (primary care NPs) to practice without physician supervision as a "pilot program". This amendment would allow APRNs to practice independently in areas in Florida with "significant primary care workforce shortages". This pilot program would be overseen by a committee comprised of primarily of physicians.

The Florida House of Representative has a companion bill to SB 1676.  This bill is HB 7053: Direct Care Workers. It has PASSED unanimously out of the Health and Human Services Committee 16-0 and is moving onward. Ultimately, the language of HB 607 in HB 7053 is preferred as this language would enhance access to quality and affordable healthcare here in Florida.

WE HAVE A FEW DAYS LEFT TO GET FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY PASSED THIS YEAR!!

We need as many people in their "White Coats & Stethoscopes" as possible to go up to Tallahassee NEXT WEEK (March 9 - 13).

We must be seen and show our support.  Nurse Practitioners will always be a part of the healthcare team but we should be able to practice independently...to the full scope of our practice!
